Sorting for the Future

Sorting Curriculum
Sorting is huge milestone for kindergarten readiness. At Fremont Kid's Academy we practice sorting every day but we realize that we are preparing our students for more than just kindergarten.

Sorting is the basis for:
Reading- being able to sort and group letters into words
Art - understanding shapes, colors, and patterns
Science - categorizing organisms, and physical concepts
Sociology - recognizing patterns of behavior
Cooking - grouping ingredients
Math - finding like characteristics and grouping items
Life in General - sorting helps with all types of daily activities including getting dressed, brushing teeth, cleaning house, fixing cars, sports, etc...

Sorting is an integral part of being a member of our human society and it can be just plain fun too.

Everyday presents an opportunity to let the environment be our teacher.

Today we didn't let the dreary weather stop us, but used it as inspiration to learn the letter U. We got out our Umbrellas and went for an Umbrella walk in the rain. The children sang "U says uh, like uh uh Umbrella."

Introducing Letters in Phonic Groups

Letter Recognition and Phonic Sounds

Fremont Kid's Academy strives to prepare its students for kindergarten and early reading.  Learning the alphabet can be a daunting task so we have broken it down into manageable groups of letters that all have the same mouth shape when the sound of the letter is produced.

Below you will find our phonic shape chart that shows how we group the letters and introduce them to our students. Each image shows a mouth shape with the black lines showing the lips, the red line showing the tongue and the green dot representing the actual sound of the letter. For example on the first phonic shape image below you will see that the mouth is open and the sound comes from the back of the throat - say the "a" sound like in apple, or the "e" sound like in elephant, "i" in inch, etc...for each of our letters there is a mouth shape represented below.

As we introduce language to the children learning to read at Fremont Kid's Academy we group the letters into groups that all have the same mouth shape.

Each week we present a different set of letters and we study items that start with those letters so that the children get practice using the sounds of the letters and connecting it to the letter they are learning to recognize.

This all seems very serious but when we are hopping around saying "hu hu hop" it sure seems like just fun.

Breastfeeding and Daycare

Fremont Kid's Academy Supports Nursing Moms

Breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your baby and supporting it is one of the best things your care provider can do for you!

Fremont Kid's Academy strongly supports and encourages our working moms to continue breastfeeding their babies at home and providing us with pumped milk during the day.

To make this process easier, follow these guidelines:
1. Label all containers of milk with a name and date as well as a "discard after" date. This way we will know when the milk is fresh and when it needs to be used by or discarded.

2. Store milk in the same quantity as the baby usually drinks...if baby is regularly taking 5 or 6oz bottles then store your milk in the same size bag. This way, less milk will be wasted and the bottles will be quicker to warm.

3. Provide a labeled bottle that your baby is used to drinking from...this will prevent confusion at home and keep all gear separate for your baby.

4. Pump often at work and breastfeed your baby often at home. The breastfeeding cycle is very depended on frequent feeding and pumping, the less you pump or feed, the less milk the breast will produce.

Fremont Kid's Academy is committed to helping moms stay connected with the choices they make for feeding their babies. If breastfeeding is on the agenda, we support it in every way possible.
