Learning to recognize letters is a major milestone on the way to reading. At Fremont Kid's Academy we incorporate practicing letters in our normal curriculum. We pick a few letters each week and focus on just those letters. The children benefit from the repetition and enjoy being able to identify the letters of the week.

Structured curriculum in childcare is an important component of a complete preschool program. At Fremont Kid's Academy we incorporate all of the necessary preschool subjects to prepare the children in our care for kindergarten. However, we also believe it is important to give children time to play freely and choose their own activities. Blocks, construction paper, and many toys give lots of options for free play.

All week long we've been working with shapes at Fremont Kid's Academy. The culmination of all of our two dimensional study is a play session with three dimensional shapes, also known as blocks. The children were able to make the connection between the two dimensional paper shapes they've been making collages out of and the three dimensional blocks they are making structures from.

Interwoven with all of the preschool curriculum that is taught at Fremont Kid's Academy are the skills that a baby aquires to transition to toddler status. Self feeding is high on that list and oh so much fun to practice. Multigrain Cheerios are perfect candidates for first self feeding foods. They are easy to pick up, healthy, and taste great.

Recognizing, naming, and recalling shapes is one of our themes this week. We are working with triangles today and while the children are learning, they just feel like they're having fun pasting their shapes down, making their triangle picture.

Art at Fremont Kid's Academy takes many forms and on occasion it's just for art's sake, but today, like most days, it's to teach a lesson based on Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math. The children in our care enjoy learning through art so much that they don't even realize that they are getting ready for kindergarten.

Having the autonomy to choose their own toys gives the children in care at Fremont Kid's Academy the ability to express their interests and desires. That freedom also allows the care providers learn about the individual personalities of each child. Having this knowledge arms us with important data to use when we teach subjects. We will use items that interest each child to their benefit.
